Typically seen with a sloop rig or possibly a yawl rig. It is a solid coastal cruiser capable of offshore.

Power

The original model came with the Atomic-4  & Perkins 4.107 with a shaft drive typically turning a remote Walter V-drive. Later models saw other engine variations. Contact us to discuss your specific model to ensure the best repower recommendation.

Repower Recommendations

The Beta 35 is the preferred engine for this vessel.  The Beta 35 has a maximum engine speed of 2800 RPM.  This is important because when coupled to a 1:1 ratio, transmission, this combination works just right with the original ratio Walter V- Drive.  This package provides the correct power and propeller speed for best efficiency. A higher RPM engine even with more HP is less desirable for this repower.

Installation Considerations

THINGS TO KNOW

  • Beta marine offers a Velvet Drive adaptor kit for all of our larger engines. This allows the installer to maintain the geometry of the original installation.  In this vessel you can easily retain the original transmission and drive shaft and Walter V-Drive.
  • The Beta marine stainless steel reversing exhaust elbow works especially well for v-drive installations. (See photo)
  • Propeller size is usually limited to around 16”diameter.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

We took the boat out yesterday for the engine’s small shakedown, we traveled about 3nm out to the Indian River and back. I have to say that the engine was as smooth and quiet (we could hold normal conversations easily) as could be. On our return trip, the wind was blowing 25knots and we powered into the waves easily losing only a knot of headway.

Both my wife and I are absolutely thrilled with the engine/transmission working with no vibration driving the boat to 6.2 knots at 1500 rpm. The temperature never got above 170 and the oil pressure was 48-50 psi.

The Kubota is a great platform and it integrated perfectly into our boat’s systems.

Thanks for the great recommendation of the Beta 35! ”

Best regards,
